Pirelli has announced it will bring an alternative rear tyre solution to the second round of the World Superbike Championship at Motorland Aragon, developed specifically to 'balance competition' between it and the full specification machines.

Making the most of the break between the opening round in Australia and the second WSBK round in Spain, Pirelli has confirmed it will make its new rear tyre solution available to the EVO contenders only.

Though Pirelli says the solution won't be the same at each event, the move has nonetheless been made to help balance the EVO class' disadvantage in horsepower and electronics compared with its full WSBK specification rivals.

The solution mimics that of the MotoGP class, where the 'Open' category benefits from using a softer rear tyre compared with the manufacturer teams.

The change comes despite a handful of EVO riders proving fairly competitive during the Phillip Island with both David Salom and Niccolo Canepa cracking the top ten and mixing it with main championship class rivals.

Even so, Motorland Aragon, with its lengthy back straight, is expected to prove a sterner test for the EVO bikes.

The tyres will not affect the total number of tyre solutions available to a rider of the year.
