Davide Giugliano helped put a disappointing home Imola round behind him by moving to the top of the WSBK timesheets during Free Practice 2 at Donington Park.

The Ducati star set the pace courtesy of a late flying lap of 1m 28.082s, an improvement of two seconds on his ninth place time in the morning session.

The revised Donington schedule will see Free Practice 3 take place later this afternoon, which Giugliano will start with a slim 0.099s advantage over FP1 leader Loris Baz (Kawasaki), with home hero Alex Lowes just 0.105s behind for Voltcom Crescent Suzuki despite an early fall.

Kawasaki's world champion Tom Sykes and Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli completed a top five covered by 0.341s. Guintoli's team-mate Marco Melandri slipped back to tenth after joining Toni Elias, Claudio Corti, Bryan Staring and Geoff May in failing to improve.

Between Guintoli and Melandri on the updated combined timesheets were Eugene Laverty (Suzuki), double Imola winner and title leader Jonathan Rea (Honda), Leon Haslam (Honda) and Chaz Davies (Ducati). Welshman Davies was 0.9s behind team-mate Giugliano.

FP2 was briefly interrupted for track cleaning following a fall for Jeremy Guarnoni.

The top ten riders on combined lap times after FP3 will receive direct access to Saturday's Superpole 2 session.
