Sylvain Guintoli says he can use his Apriliia RSV4 to its full potential around Sepang as he and his Aprilia counterparts dominated the opening day of free practice around the Malaysian circuit.

Having followed factory team-mate Marco Melandri and satellite Red Devils Roma rider Toni Elias in FP1, Guintoli sprung to the top of the timesheets in FP2 with a time of 2mins 05.096secs, the fastest lap of the day.

With its long home and back straights, Sepang was always expected to suit the RSV4 with its superior top speed - which was seemingly confirmed by all three bikes comfortably breaking 300km/h through the speed traps -, but Guintoli insists the RSV4 is performing well as a package too.

"The results are clear today, the RSV4 works really well here," he said. "In the last few rounds we haven't able to use the bike's full potential, but here we have the conditions to be able to do it and I obviously like that a lot. Not only is our flying lap fast, but our pace is too and it has been since the first session.

"I am also feeling good on runs over several laps. In short this has been a decidedly positive day from all points of view."
