Marco Melandri says he is happy to have started the World Superbike weekend at Sepang on a positive note after taking full advantage of Aprilia's early pace advantage in practice.

Quickest during FP1, the first-ever WSBK practice session to be held around the Malaysian venue, though Melandri didn't improve his time in FP2 after electing not to use fresh rubber, he remained second quickest overall behind team-mate Sylvain Guintoli.

Coming in a season where he has struggled to find a comfortable setting on the Aprilia RSV4, Melandri feels is now making some headway.
