Sylvain Guintoli continues to hold sway at the top of the World Superbike Championship timesheets at Sepang as the only rider to dip below 2mins 04secs in FP3.
Booking his place into Superpole 2 as the quickest rider of the weekend thus far, overnight pace setter Guintoli headed up a session in which nearly every rider was significantly faster than they had managed in FP2.
Despite this, it was Aprilia's Guintoli who remained on top, the Frenchman turning in a time of 2mins 03.921secs to end the session some four tenths up on second place man Davide Giugliano aboard the Ducati.
Tom Sykes completed a spread out top three on the Kawasaki, six tenths behind, with Marco Melandri and Toni Elias rounding out the top five on their respective Aprilias.
Loris Baz lifted himself to sixth on the timesheets, ahead of Chaz Davies, Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty, while Leon Haslam secured his SP2 spot at the expense of Alex Lowes, who missed part of the session with a problem and was unable to improve in the closing stages.
As such, he will participate in SP1, along with leading EVO riders Niccolo Canepa, David Salom, Ayrton Badovini and Christian Iddon, while Sheridan Morais, Leon Camier, Claudio Corti, Jeremy Guarnoni and Fabien Foret will also live to fight another session after squeezing into the top twenty.
