Alex Lowes has given the Misano circuit a resounding thumbs up as he completed his first day of mileage around the Italian venue aboard a World Superbike with a time good enough for sixth overall.
Trialling the circuit on his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki for the first time, Lowes would prove quicker than team-mate Eugene Laverty in both FP1 and FP2, his best time in the latter placing him sixth on the timesheets.
A strong start for the two-time WSBK podium winner, Lowes says he will now focus on making tweaks to put him in a position to challenge for another rostrum come race day.
“I really like the Misano track; it's a lot of fun. We completed some work on old tyres which felt OK and then made some steps forward towards the end of this afternoon's session.
“We have some work still to do tonight to make some improvements for the end of the lap, but I feel good. Now I need to work hard in the final practice tomorrow to make sure we are in a position to challenge for podiums on Sunday!”
On the other side of the garage, Laverty says race pace is stronger than his ninth place on the timesheets suggests, but admits he is struggling to turn in one 'hard' lap.
“The position is not where we want to be. Race pace we are good but we are still lacking the ability to push for one hard lap, we can't use the grip of the tyre and it's something we still need to work on. For the second half of the race I'm confident but it's for the first half, and for Superpole tomorrow that we need to put in some more work.”
