Sylvain Guintoli and Marco Melandri say they are satisfied with their respective third and fifth on the grid for the seventh World Superbike Championship round at Misano after missing out on the chance for pole position.

Amongst the favourites for the top spot in Superpole based on their practice pace, Guintoli and Melandri would have untidy fast laps to blame for falling short from the ultimate prize of pole position.

Nonetheless, Guintoli is pleased to at least book a spot on the front row, pointing out that the twisty first section to the track could make grid position pivotal.

"This was definitely a good day for me. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish with my best in the qualifiers, especially in the last section of the track where I struggled a bit. In any case the second row is not bad. The front runners all have a good place at the race start.

"I'll need to get off to a good start and set my pace straight away. It will be important not to make mistakes tomorrow and to find the right conditions for overtaking when necessary."
