Baz buoyant ahead of Portimao races

5 July 2014

Loris Baz is hoping a productive warm-up session will help him find the 'few tenths' he needs to challenge for a first World Superbike victory of the season at Portimao.

The Frenchman, who has finished second on seven occasions this year without topping the podium, will start Sunday's two races from fifth position after falling short of the speed required to make it onto the front row with Kawasaki team-mate Tom Sykes in Superpole.

Despite this, Baz – who is currently third in the WSBK standings - believes he can still be a factor for victory in Portugal, particularly if he can make a breakthrough in the short 15min morning warm-up.

“Our pace is good but I am just missing a few tenths right now. We have improved a lot and we are not really far away but at this track it is very close. When you are two-tenths slower you can be seventh! I have to say I am happy with qualifying because the second row is good for the race and to get on the front row was just too hard here.

“If you make a good start second row it is still good for the race. We will try to find our missing two or three tenths in warm up and I love this track, even if it is not the easiest one to ride. I am sure we can find something to make life easier over race distance, but overall our pace is good.”
