Sylvain Barrier proved that he is most certainly back to his best as he notched up a top ten qualifying performance and a maiden World Superbike EVO victory in only his second event back from a lengthy injury time-out.

Quick on his return in Misano last month, Barrier showed further progress on the BMW Italia S1000RR in Portimao, qualifying tenth after reaching SP2 and proceeding to go bar-to-bar with EVO rival David Salom in the fight for honours in race one.

Though he would agonisingly lose out on victory to the Spaniard by 0.020secs after the Kawasaki rider got a better run out of the final corner, Barrier struck back convincingly in race two with an unexpected first victory (not including the excluded Bimotas) on his first outing in the wet aboard the BMW Superbike.

"Race two was my first time in the wet with the BMW S 1000 RR EVO conformation. For this reason, my team told me to take the second race as a kind of training. But I soon found myself coping very well and then after a few laps I got a good pace and in the end I was the first EVO rider.

"In conclusion it was a beautiful weekend in which I had fun and got great results thanks to my team who has done an outstanding job as always on my bike. "
