Marco Melandri says he will be 'on the attack' for the final World Superbike Championship round before the summer break at Laguna Seca since he now has 'nothing to lose' in the title battle.

A potentially pivotal DNF at the hands of Aprilia team-mate Sylvain Guintoli in Portimao has seen Melandri slip 92 points adrift of series leader Tom Sykes with five rounds and ten races remaining.

Abruptly ending a run of good form that had seen Melandri finish five consecutive races inside the top four - including two wins at Sepang -, the Italian is looking forward to racing at Laguna Seca, insisting he will attack from start-to-finish since he has little to lose.
