Eugene Laverty says finding a way to make the most of the new tyres will make the difference for his chances at Laguna Seca this weekend having struggled for race results partly because of disappointing qualifying performances.

In what has turned out to be a frustrating year for the Irishman, Laverty is eager to head into the impending summer break with a pair of good results under his belt, but is aware he needs to begin qualifying better if he is to capitalise on his often better race pace.

Sixth fastest after free practice, Laverty is certain a stronger result in Superpole on the new tyres will give him the best shot at a more competitive race.

"I'm confident for the race but our focus for the morning is improving that rear setting to allow me to use the new tyre in Superpole. Last time out we should have been there fighting at the front but a bad Superpole cost us, so that is the key for the morning."
