WSBK Laguna Seca: Laverty heads into summer on a high

Suzuki's Eugene Laverty bounces back from technical issues to claim a fourth place finish in second WSBK race at Laguna Seca.
Eugene Laverty feels he and the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team can go into the summer break feeling good after picking up a fourth place finish at Laguna Seca.

A day of mixed fortunes for the Irishman, technical issues consigned him to an early retirement in race one, but a stronger showing in race two aboard the Suzuki GSX-R1000 proved more fruitful.

Tussling for the podium initially, though the restarts and shortened race distance didn't work in Laverty's favour, he was able to recover a fourth place finish having benefitted from crashes ahead by Marco Melandri and Davide Giugliano.

One of his better results in a season that is proving otherwise difficult, Laverty feels he can go into the summer break feeling positive.

“We have put in a lot of good work all weekend but race one was over before it started, we had a technical problem and managed a few laps hanging in there but the bike was on its way out, so on lap eight it was done.

“In race two I managed to hang in with the front guys even when our bike isn't as strong with a full fuel tank and new tyres. Then the GSX-R started to feel really good and I knew I could come towards them but the red flag came out. The restarted seven lap sprints don't really suit us as we are always better at the end of the races.

“We as a team had the potential for podiums today, the guys worked so hard this weekend so we all deserved it before the summer break - fourth was not really the reward we were looking for.”

eugene laverty is riding the wheels of this suzuki which is a outdated piece of crap, you think suzuki japan would help this man out with something a lot better as it is this class that sells road bikes an not that moto gp class, shame on you people at suzuki . If eugene had the bike under him there is no doubt mr skyes would not be running away with the title .

Was a great ride, and i could wach the effort that Laverty was doing to keep up with the top guys.. The Suzuki is still a weapon but it really need the updates to figth with the others that can be faster form the start and have more powerfull engines and electronics.. Even in Wsbk we allready can see the problems that electronics start to give, i also listen to one reporter speacking about the limitacions that are planned to the Wsbk class and i found funny when he told that Aprilia was clearly unhappy with this situacion and like Honda in motogp they already told that they are thinking on Leave Wsbk..lolol Now you can see that is Honda or any other manufacter that is playing at the Top, they never enjoy when Dorna whant to make live harder for them..lolo
