Davide Giugliano has acknowledged he needs to focus on greater consistency and control if he is to capitalise on his evident speed in the World Superbike Championship following several high-profile crashes.

The Italian, currently in his third season of WSBK racing with the factory Ducati team, has proven a worthy front runner since his debut in 2012 but has also developed a reputation for crashing from optimal positions, not least this season.

A six-time podium winner and twice on pole position, Giugliano is currently seventh in the 2014 WSBK standings but is still chasing his first win, the Italian throwing away potentially strong results with crashes from good positions at Assen, Imola Donington Park and Laguna Seca

Indeed, Giugliano admits he needs to improve his own personal performances if he is to capitalise on the improving form of his 1199 Panigale.

"This first part of the season has been just OK, but to be honest my situation is a bit strange," he told the official WSBK website. "We were very quick but at the same time we made a lot of mistakes, I mean I've made. I am constantly over the limit and this is not a good thing, I think we need to improve on this side and try to transform our potential into results a bit more.

"I hope to do well in the remaining rounds. We don't need to overdo things, just do what we have to. We need to cross the finish line much more; this is the most important thing for us now. The speed has always been there, I have often been in the top three in practice, but I must find some consistency."

I seem to remember the exact same thing said in 2002 when the 996 was coming to the end of it's life. Then came the 999, 1098 & 1198 and numerous championship wins followed.

I agree about the monocoque though. A Panigale motor in a trellis frame would be winning races.
