WSBK: Denning thrilled to lure de Puniet to Suzuki

Crescent Suzuki team manager Paul Denning believes ex-MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet will bring experience and speed to the WSBK squad.
Crescent Suzuki team manager Paul Denning has spoken of his delight at securing the services of 'high quality' former MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet to the outfit in 2015.

de Puniet will compete alongside Alex Lowes in a revised rider line-up for the British based squad in the 2015 World Superbike Championship, the Frenchman following in the wheeltracks of Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi amongst others to make the switch from MotoGP.

Renowned for his development abilities, Denning feels de Puniet is the ideal person to get the best from the Suzuki GSX-R1000.

“We couldn't be happier to have secured Randy's agreement to compete in the 2015 World Superbike Championship on board our GSX-R1000. We needed a high quality rider to replace Eugene; Randy was the obvious choice, and we are very proud to have gained his trust and commitment to race with us next year.

“He has impressed Suzuki this year with his hard work and feedback as test rider on the Grand Prix GSX-RR, but Randy's racing pedigree is also beyond doubt and his potential to succeed on the Superbike is clear. This is not a commercially driven deal – the primary motivation is simply to race!

“After an acclimatisation period to learn the GSX-R1000 and the Pirelli tyres, I see no reason why he won't be an absolute front runner. Randy's close working relationship with the Suzuki Factory can also only be positive for the World Superbike project, and the whole team is very excited about getting down to work, and turning 2014's potential into solid results for both riders next season.”

de Puniet made his GP racing debut in 1998 and competed in MotoGP between 2006 and 2013, switching his focus to leading development of the new Suzuki MotoGP machine in 2014 in preparation for its return to competition next season.

Remember Carlos "Gravel Trap" Checa as he was affectionately known in his MotoGP days? Well he only had 2 wins from 194 starts in MotoGP but 24 wins from 150 starts in WSB including a championship. Don't count Randy out yet.

He will have to be the worlds best development rider to get anymore speed from that fairness to the teams running it in BSB and WSB they have done a great job keeping it running near the front but it fell off the end of its development curve some time ago. Hope for a surprise as I always liked the gixxer.
