Loris Baz was left somewhat mystified as to how he secured second position on the grid for the final round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship season after completing what he says was the 'worst lap' of his life.

The Frenchman, who is competing in his final WSBK event for Kawasaki before switching to MotoGP in 2015, has been in fine form around the Losail circuit all weekend, despite it being his first visit to Qatar.

It was form he carried through to Superpole by qualifying second on the grid behind Davide Giugliano and ahead of team-mate Tom Sykes. However, by his own admission, it was achieved with a poor lap.

"It is strange because I feel like I made maybe the worst lap of my life but I was second in Superpole! I made too many mistakes and I missed a gear on the straight so I lost maybe one or two tenths there, and at the back of the track I lost some more time.

"I was just hoping to still be on the first or second row, so I am really happy to be one place from the front. I could have gone faster but let us see how it is tomorrow. I like the track here and I want to end the season with the team in a good way, to say thank you for all they have done for me."
