Jonathan Rea has completed his first two days of testing with Kawasaki as he posted a faster lap time than new team-mate Tom Sykes at Motorland Aragon.

The first time he has ridden anything other than a Honda Superbike since making his WSBK debut in 2008, Rea spent two days getting acclimatised to the Kawasaki ZX-10R in Spain, completing 80 laps and finishing with a best lap of 1min 51.1secs.

Though his track time was hampered by a low-side on the second day, Rea was still a tenth quicker than Sykes, even if the former champion openly admits he didn't spend the test chasing lap times.

With Rea unable to comment on the bike for the time being, his new crew chief Pere Riba expressed his pleasure at the feedback and progress made by the Ulsterman over the two days.

"I feel quite positive about this first test," Riba said. "We used our new bike to suit the 2015 rules for the first time and at the same time we have a new rider in Jonathan Rea. On the first day it was raining in the morning but then it was a good day of testing because we started to understand what Jonathan needed. He is a very good rider, very professional and the information we received is really good.

"It helps us to understand which direction we needed to go in to develop the bike. Jonathan did around 40 laps each day. It was a first test so we had to look for the base setting for the rider and the machine. That meant we spent quite a lot of time in the pit box making changes, but it worked out positively."

Despite being unable to comment in-depth, Rea did take to Twitter to suggest he is enjoying his new surroundings.
