Ducati's preparations for the 2015 World Superbike Championship season are off to a good start as Davide Giugliano set an impressive pace during testing at Motorland Aragon.

Though only Ducati and Kawasaki were present for the two-day test, Giugliano and Chaz Davies were notably faster than their rivals, with the Italian turning in a best lap of 1min 50.2secs around the faster MotoGP-configuration (which cuts out the hairpin at the end of the back straight).

A strong start for the 2015 specification Panigale R, which many insiders are predicting to be the bike to beat next season under the new regulations, Giugliano was certainly impressed with its early performance.

"It's all gone very well, we've tried many different things, all of which have led to improvements in areas where we needed them. I'm very pleased with the 2015 package because as soon as I got on the bike I felt comfortable, and we were able to concentrate on set-up and the testing of new components right away.

"Going fast at Aragon is very important to me because it's a track that has always given me problems. We still have to work on pace which is the most critical aspect for me, but already over these two days we've seen that I was able to lap consistently fast with used tyres. This is very positive as we look ahead to next week's tests at Jerez."
