Defending World Superbike Champion Sylvain Guintoli has made his first appearance in PATA Honda colours as he joined WSBK testing in Jerez, complete with the #1 plate on his new machine.

The Frenchman, who won the 2014 WSBK title in the final race of the season for Aprilia Racing, makes the switch to PATA Honda for 2015 after the Italian manufacturer scaled back its factory involvement in favour of a move back to MotoGP.

As such, PATA Honda will compete with two world champions on its books - including Supersport winner Michael van der Mark -, with Guintoli appearing in Spain having exercised his right to compete with the coveted #1 plate on the CBR1000RR.

Though its appearance doesn't necessarily mean he will run the plate during the 2015 season, it is nonetheless the first time it has been seen on a Honda Superbike since Colin Edwards in 2001.

As for the test itself, Guintoli didn't get so many laps in due to inclement weather conditions, his best lap of 1min 47.650secs proving more than three seconds off the ultimate pace and more than two seconds behind van der Mark.

Testing continues today.
