Jonathan Rea returned to the top of the World Superbike Championship timesheets in Jerez after several teams opted to remain in Spain on an amended testing schedule so as to make the most of better weather.

On an entirely dry day around the Spanish venue, Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki all decided to remain on track - rather than return later in the week as planned - as forecasts suggest weather will deteriorate again.

With Ducati and MV Agusta joining the test, Rea was quickest of the nine WSBK riders on track with a lap time of 1min 40.738s, with Randy de Puniet an impressive second best on the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki, albeit on Pirelli's qualifying tyres.

Alex Lowes was third quickest on the second of the Suzuki, from Tom Sykes and Michael van der Mark, while defending champion Sylvain Guintoli was seventh best as he continued to adapt to the PATA Honda. Fresh from the news he will ride with the manufacturer in 2015, Leon Camier was just over four seconds off the pace.

Also present was Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies for Ducati, though they ran without producing any official lap times. However, unofficially they would have been classified fifth and seventh
