Sheridan Morais will not compete with Grillini Racing in the 2015 World Superbike Championship, despite an earlier announcement to the contrary.

The experienced South African, who stepped up to World Superbikes full-time with the Italian squad in 2014, had been one of the first riders to secure his place on the 2015 WSBK grid when a deal renewal was announced prior to the final round of the season.

However, just days after Grillini Racing revealed the signing of Frenchman Christophe Ponsson, it has been confirmed that Morais is no longer part of the team.

"I am very sorry not to have Shez in the team for next season because I like him as a rider and as a person, but unfortunately different needs did not allow us to find a definitive agreement," said team manager Andrea Grillini.

Grillini Racing says it is still the plan to have two riders on the grid in 2015, with a replacement for Morais currently being sought.

A podium winner at World Supersport and Superstock 1000 level, Morais finished sixth in the 2014 WSBK EVO class riding a Kawasaki ZX-10R.
