WSBK: Haslam: Feeling with Aprilia increasing lap by lap

Leon Haslam continues to turn heads during pre-season testing on the Red Devils Roma Aprilia RSV4.
Leon Haslam says he is becoming increasingly confident on the Aprilia RSV4 after producing more encouraging lap times during pre-season World Superbike testing in Portimao.

The 2010 WSBK runner-up, who made the switch to the factory-affiliated Red Devils Roma Aprilia team over the winter, caught the eye with some quick times during testing at the end of 2014, form he continued to show as pre-season sessions got underway.

Indeed, though inclement weather conditions played their part in limiting track time, Haslam still posted a best time of 1min 43.5secs, placing him on a par with what he managed at the circuit on a PATA Honda in Superpole during the warmer 2014 race weekend.

With the countdown to the 2015 World Superbike opening continuing, Haslam says he is impressed with the progress being made.

“The weather definitely wasn't kind to us for these tests but I'm quite pleased anyway. In the afternoon we were fast and I can tell that my feeling with the RSV4 is increasing lap by lap.

“There is still a lot of work to be done and I can't wait to get back on the track in Jerez to continue our progress and make sure we're in good form for the beginning of the season."

I'm not sure what to make of WSBK 2015. As usual, too much weak-willed rules fudging resulting in a mess. I'd love to have seen the electronics slashed to BSB type rules - then I think we'd actually get to see really which rider has the goods. LH has been slated something awful as not good enough by the ignorant who fail to consider just how much intervention and interference the electronics have had in WSBK - just like MotoGP. If Dorna ever manage to actually do something right and decent for Racing and grow the balls to make the right choices, then perhaps the Riders will once again be able to stand or fall on their own abilities rather than on how well programmed the bike is. Good luck to LH in 2015 - he's overdue some IMO.

I am a LH fan, lives up the road from me - I thought 2010 was heartbreaking to watch (as LH must have felt) he'd ride the pants off that Suzuki for the whole lap to get in front of Max only for Max to sail straight back past him on the straights - didn't even have to bother slip-streaming him and there absolutely nothing LH could do about it ... a bit more power, or maybe help from Suzuki and he could have had it. Like several other people on here I think Leon maybe a dark horse, not the favourite by any means but I really wouldn't be surprised to see him mixing it up at the pointy end, if he stays on the bike and doesn't injure himself (again!) he could be in with a shout ?
