Jonathan Rea insists he didn't get the chance to 'give it a good go' despite just being pipped to the fastest time on the first day of World Superbike testing at Phillip Island.

The Ulsterman appeared to be heading for a fine result on his first day around the Australian circuit aboard the Kawasaki ZX-10R when he was beaten to the top spot by Alex Lowes in the final two minutes.

Nonetheless, Rea maintains his day was spent mostly focusing on the set-up for his ZX-10R as he continues to get a better understanding of the bike on an unusual circuit.
