Red Devils Aprilia rider Leon Haslam soared to the top of the times in FP3 with the fastest lap of the week at Phillip Island to secure his place in Superpole 2 in style.
Haslam lapped in 1m 30.791s to claim the top spot ahead of team-mate Jordi Torres, with the series rookie proving he is going to be a force to be reckoned with as he recorded a lap in 1m 30.836s, which put him second fastest overall on the combined times.
Voltcom Crescent Suzuki's Alex Lowes, who has been unable to better his time of 1m 30.855s set during the early part of FP1 on Friday, was third quickest on the combined leaderboard.
Lowes was eighth fastest in FP3, lapping in 1m 30.530s on the GSX-R1000 as he slotted in behind Pedercini Kawasaki's David Salom.
Behind the two Aprilias, Kawasaki new-boy Jonathan Rea was third fastest in 1m 31.074s followed by Nico Terol on the Althea Ducati (1m 31.263s) and Chaz Davies on the Aruba.it Ducati, while Tom Sykes completed the top six in FP3 on the second of the official factory Kawasakis.
World champion Sylvain Guintoli improved to ninth place on the Pata Honda with his fastest free practice time of 1m 31.546s followed by team-mate and series rookie Michael van der Mark, who lapped in 1m 31.595s.
Troy Bayliss missed out on an automatic place in Superpole 2 after finishing 16th fastest in FP3 with a time of 1m 32.529s on the Aruba.it Ducati, with Randy de Puniet also forced to participate in Superpole 1, joining the other riders placed 11th to 20th to battle it out for the final two places in Superpole 2.
Leon Camier (MV Agusta) was 14th fastest in the final 45-minute timed session, lapping in 1m 32.401s.
The top 10 fastest riders in the combined times from free practice are automatically seeded in Superpole 2.
Go Eleven Kawasaki's Roman Ramos came off at Turn 11 and was taken to the medical centre for further assessment.
