David Salom is conscious and breathing unaided in hospital after his high-speed crash during Superpole for the opening round of the 2015 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island.

The Spaniard - last year's EVO champion - suffered a fast fall coming onto the straight-finish straight during the second Superpole session when he high-sided from his Pedercini Kawasaki.

Though the initial tumble off the bike appeared fairly innocuous, Salom would contort through the gravel trap and twist awkwardly before coming to rest.
