Checa rules out Bayliss inspired comeback

Former champion Carlos Checa says Troy Bayliss' recent surprise World Superbike comeback won't inspire him to do the same.
Carlos Checa says he will never emulate fellow former World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss in coming out of retirement, however, briefly, saying he has hung up his helmet for good.

Winner of the 2011 World Superbike title and an experienced MotoGP racer, Checa called time on his career at the end of the 2013 and now works alongside Bayliss as an ambassador for the Ducati marque.

However, following Bayliss' surprise return to action with Ducati for a two event stint - a full seven years after he originally retired -, Checa says he is in no way tempted to pull a similar move.

“I made it very clear when I retired that I was retiring for good. I retired wanting to retire, very conscious of the decision I was making and knowing that I wouldn't return to competition. I maintain this thought. I am still enjoying the championship, but from a very different viewpoint!

“I think Bayliss was also keen to make some sort of comeback and in Australia he found himself with the opportunity. Personally, I wouldn't have done it. But if you feel like doing something and you have the chance, it's difficult to say no.”

carlos checa tried very hard to get out of his contract after his team decided to go with the panigale instead of the aprilia, especially after he had early testing on the panigale. he was one of the early testers of the bike and told ducati repeatedly the bike was a turd, especially that it couldn't turn and that the oversquare bore meant it had absolutely no midrange. ducati never fixed these problems and the bike is still a turd this many years later.
