Chaz Davies resumed control of the World Superbike timesheets after posting the first sub 1min 51s lap time of the weekend while Sylvain Guintoli and Alex Lowes will be the notable participants in Superpole 1, courtesy of finishing the session outside the top ten.
Davies was far from satisfied with the grip levels offered by his Ducati Panigale on corner exit on Friday afternoon but his time of 1m 50.934s nudged Jonathan Rea from top spot by 0.08s.
Continuing the fine form that has seen him place inside the top four in each session to date, Xavi Fores was the only non-British entry in the top five. The Spaniard skimmed over seven tenths of a second off his personal best time with a late lap that saw him finish three tenths slower than his team-mate.
Like Fores, Leon Haslam improved his personal best by close to three quarters of a second to end the 45-minute session in fourth, a place ahead of Tom Sykes. The Kawasaki man was plagued by a stomach virus on Friday and was unable to improve his time on Saturday morning.
Having struggled under heavy braking on Friday, Jordi Torres knocked over a second off his previous best time from the weekend to round out the top six. Nico Terol was seventh while Michael van der Mark was struck by mechanical gremlins at the close of the morning. He ended the session in eighth ahead of David Salom and Tati Mercado.
Along with Guintoli (eleventh) and Lowes (twelfth) other notable absences from the top ten included Randy de Puniet (16th) who crashed at turn two. They will fight it out for the top two spots in SP1 in a bid to qualify for SP2.
