Even when he had suffered a difficult start to a World Superbike Championship season, Jonathan Rea could always count on Assen to give his points' tally a fillip thanks to his superb record around the Dutch venue.

Well-trained at Assen from his years competing with the locally-based Ten Kate Honda team, Rea - before 2015 - had notched up five of his 15 WSBK careers wins around the iconic 'TT track'.

For 2015, however, Rea will take to Assen riding the Kawasaki machinery he has all-but-dominated on so far this season, the Ulsterman's four wins in six races already giving him a 26 point lead over Leon Haslam in second and 57 points clear of third place Chaz Davies.

With this in mind, Rea is looking forward to getting the chance to tackle Assen on his new, more competitive bike and is confident of another strong weekend.

"I am really excited about Assen because it is a circuit I really enjoy and I have had some good success at in the past," he said. "This year with a new team and a new bike we need to see how we perform on Friday but Assen is somewhere I think we can try and win again.

"There is always close racing there, which I am looking forward to. It is cool to go there each year because there are always a lot of British fans that make the trip over to watch the race. I have some family coming as well.

"Aside from Phillip Island this is going to be the race that most feels a little bit like home because I have spent so much time there in the past."
