Putting up a fight main target for Torres

Jordi Torres believes he will have accomplished a season objective when he begins to fight with the leading group in the World Superbike series
Jordi Torres is refusing to get carried away by his early season run of results and believes he will only be satisfied once he starts to challenge the leading group in the World Superbike class.

The 27-year old Spaniard moved across to the series for 2015 with the factory supported Red Devils Aprilia Racing Team after a less than satisfactory year in the Moto2 world championship.

Having impressed with a fine fourth place first time out in Australia, Torres has finished all but one race inside the top six and sits fifth in the overall standings after four rounds.

Yet, speaking to at Motorland Aragon in early April, he revealed that he still isn't totally content with his start to life racing aboard the RSV4 RF.

“When I finish these two races [in Thailand] in fourth place I'm not happy because I think I'm happy when I more or less ride with my enemies, the other riders,” he said.
Continuing to adapt his riding style to the extra power and weight of the Superbike is key to his progression but Torres knows the areas in which he needs to improve.

“All the people like [Tom] Sykes and my team-mate Leon [Haslam] brake hard. But they stop the bike completely on the entry to the corner. When you release your brake these guys stop it more than when they are straight. I need to understand this!

“When I'm braking I don't stop the bike. Only braking and the exit of the corner is full on, in a straight line. So I will be happy when I change my riding style completely to become more fast and use less the tyres or tire myself out less.”

As a battle raged at the front of both races at the Dutch round of the series in Assen, Torres was unable to challenge the leading quintet. Two sixth places still represented a positive points haul but the rider that hails from the Catalan town of Rubí is desperate to challenge the likes of Rea, Haslam and Davies in a straight fight.

“I think I would stay happy when I make some battles with these five or six strong guys in the championship,” he said. “Maybe I don't win or I make one crash but I fight with these guys. This is my objective for this season. This is important! We can make four, five, ten laps fighting like this and after I go to the rear but I want to fight with these guys.”
