Alex Lowes is targeting a return to the sharp end of the World Superbike grid and is optimistic his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki can challenge on the technical Imola track.

The 2013 British Superbike champion has endured a rollercoaster World Superbike season this year and says he's enjoyed the short break to take stock and ready himself a mid-season charge.

After suffering technical issues with his Suzuki GSX-R in the season opener at Phillip Island Lowes bounced back to grab two impressive results in Thailand, highlighted by his second career WSBK podium.

However, since the start of the European stint of the World Superbike season Lowes is yet to replicate his form from Thailand, with two crashes in the opening races at Aragon and Assen respectively.

The Lincolnshire rider says he enjoys competing at the Italian Enzo e Dino Ferrari Imola circuit, where he scored two top ten finishes 12 months ago, and is hopeful the technical track could play into the hands of his Suzuki squad.

"After the three week break I'm looking forward to Imola, getting back on the GSX-R and trying to get closer to the front," Lowes said. "I like the track as it's so technical, it can be quite hard to set the bike up there but I enjoy the challenge.

"The atmosphere of the race event, and Imola itself with its racing history, is cool and the fans are so passionate, so it's a great place for the Championship to visit."
