Tom Sykes began Sunday as he means to go on by leading morning World Superbike warm-up at Imola.
The Kawasaki duo of Sykes and Jonathan Rea toppled Chaz Davies from top spot with laps in the low 1m 47s, a pace which Rea had said he hoped he could sustain throughout Sunday's two 19-lap races.
Having complained of issues that affected the turning of his Ducati Panigale 1199 after qualifying, Davies was able to cut a 1m 47.3s time, suggesting a solution was partly found.
He finished the session ahead of Davide Giugliano, the only other rider lapping below 1m 48s, Leon Haslam and Ayrton Badovini.
Jordi Torres continues his adaption to the challenging Imola layout apace. The Spaniard was seventh fastest with Michael van der Mark a place ahead of Alex Lowes in eighth.
Niccolo Canepa missed Saturday's Superpole session due to gastroenteritis. The Italian wasn't present in morning warm-up.
