Michael van der Mark says he is aiming for a return to the rostrum at Donington Park after claiming victory there last season in the World Supersport category on his way to the title.
The Dutch rider is enjoying his rookie season in World Superbike with the PATA Honda squad and despite the CBR1000RR machine being off the pace last time out in Imola, van der Mark is confident if he can rediscover his form from Assen then a rostrum is within his grasp.
“I really like the Donington Park circuit and I'm looking forward to going back there this weekend,” van der Mark said. “I'm still a rookie and still learning to ride a superbike but it would be good to get back to a position where we can fight for the podium on Sunday.”
The 22-year-old graduated from the PATA Honda World Supersport team after claiming the title last season. The British round was a standout event for the young Dutch rider as he totally dominated on the CBR600RR; claiming pole, fastest lap and race victory.
“I had a pretty good result there last year and I'm hoping it will suit the CBR a little better,” he added. “The first part is really fast and free-flowing and a lot of fun, but we'll have to work hard to get the bike working in the last part with the two hairpins.”
