Chaz Davies says the Portimao track 'is one of the best tracks in the world' and is in a buoyant mood off the back of a double podium weekend at Donington Park.
The Aruba.it Ducati rider is looking to take the battle to his championship rivals, despite admitting the Panigale R is lacking outright performance against some of its rivals
. Davies is returning to a circuit which holds happy memories for the Welsh rider, as it is the scene where he was crowned the World Supersport champion in 2011.
“I really like the Portimao track and think it is one of the best tracks in the world,” Davies declared. “It has elements that are similar to a motocross track and in certain sections it's a little like a BSB track.”
Davies also says he enjoyed a strong weekend at the Algarve circuit last year. After finishing outside the points in race one he was able to recover and fight his way to the podium in race two, to record his third rostrum finish as a Ducati factory rider.
“We had a solid weekend there last year and I'm optimistic that we can do well and put up a good fight against our biggest rivals,” he said. “We continue to aim for podium finishes at every round.”
Davies currently sits fourth in the World Superbike championship race and will look to close the gap on the likes of Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam in Portugal this weekend.
