Not content with starting from second position on the grid, Tom Sykes demonstrated he will be the man to beat in Sunday's World Superbike races at Portimão by topping morning warm up.
Sykes missed out on pole position by a fraction on Saturday but he lapped the Portuguese track over three tenths faster than team-mate Jonathan Rea, who showed no ill-effects after his high-speed spill less than 24 hours before.
Both Kawasaki men showed ominous consistency with all of Rea's eight laps in the 1m 43s while Sykes posted five in the 43s and two in the 42s.
Jordi Torres was just 0.2s slower than Rea and narrowly faster than team-mate Leon Haslam. Then came the Aruba.it Racing Ducatis of Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano, who were unable to take advantage of the cooler conditions on a cloudy Sunday morning.
Michael van der Mark showed substantial improvements in eighth, a day after putting in his worst qualifying showing of the year. Sylvain Guintoli was seventh and Alex Lowes ninth.
