Kawasaki Racing heads into qualifying for the ninth round of the World Superbike Championship at Laguna Seca as the team to beat as Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes set the pace in fourth and final free practice.
A rapid late effort from Rea would see him come out on top in the closing stages, the Ulsterman's lap of 1min 23.580secs putting him four hundredths clear of team-mate Sykes. Former champion Sykes, who was quickest in FP3, nonetheless still takes the fastest lap of the weekend through to Superpole later today.
Ducati provided the closest competition once more, with Chaz Davies leading Niccolo Canepa and Davide Giugliano, while Jordi Torres and Leon Haslam remain in the hunt for the Red Devils Roma Aprilia team.
