Chaz Davies is confident he can turn his long awaited first World Superbike pole position into wins as he enjoyed his best ever qualifying performance at Laguna Seca.

Though he is one of the more experienced riders on the WSBK grid with 89 starts, the Ducati rider's efforts in Superpole around the Californian circuit mark the first time in 45 attempts that he has prevailed with pole position.

Indeed, Davies - a five-time race winner - acknowledges single lap pace isn't a strength of his (he managed just one pole position during his time in World Supersport too), but around 'special track' he knows particularly well from his day competing on the American domestic racing scene, he was thrilled to have it all come together.

"Superpole has never really been my specialty but we did everything right. I honestly didn't think I'd done enough as I made one small mistake, so to be here on pole is a fantastic result, especially at Laguna, a really special track.

"We've been working extremely well this weekend and I believe we're in a position to really fight tomorrow. In the morning we made good progress and then took another step forward in Superpole. I feel well prepared for the scrap we're bound to see, and I'm very much looking forward to racing."
