Max Biaggi held onto his place at the top of the timesheets in second free practice for the Sepang World Superbike event as rain arrived to disrupt proceedings.

Just as he did at Misano, the returning former champion sent ripples through the paddock as he comfortably out-performed his rivals by topping FP1 in Sepang, a position he would go on to maintain in FP2 as the typically inclement Malaysian weather prevented any further improvements.

With all practice sessions counting towards who will progress to Superpole, it means Biaggi remains well placed to make it through to SP2 automatically, with no change occurring behind him as he led Chaz Davies, Jonathan Rea, Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam.
