Matteo Baiocco has ended the official one-day World Superbike test quickest at the Circuit de Jerez, notching up the fastest lap in the morning session before the temperatures rose to curtail outright hot laps.
The majority of factory-supported teams were in action expect for Voltcom Crescent Suzuki – heightening belief that Paul Denning's squad will switch to Yamaha machinery for 2016 – as the teams focused on developments for next year as well as the final two rounds of the current season.
Baiocco and Althea Ducati were the surprise timesheet toppers after displacing the new World Superbike champions Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki Racing in second, with his team-mate Tom Sykes in third.
Leon Haslam, who made a welcomed return to the rostrum in race two at Jerez, ended the day fourth fastest ahead of the second Althea Ducati Niccolo Canepa.
Chaz Davies notched up 68 laps under the sweltering Spanish sun in sixth for Aruba.it Ducati while working on new parts for 2016.
Jordi Torres topped the afternoon session to end the day seventh overall as he worked on the Aprilia's race set-up, while Pata Honda's Michael van der Mark, Althea's Raffele De Rosa and Pedercini Kawasaki's David Salom completed the top ten.
