Sylvain Guintoli savored his first podium finish in Pata Honda colours at Magny-Cours as he expertly took advantage of damp conditions in race one to fend off team-mate Michael van der Mark for a season best third placed finish.

Nearing the end of a difficult championship defense, Guintoli stood on the box for the first time since the final round of 2014, 'grabbing the opportunity' provided by an overnight shower than had left the track wet for race one.

"It was good to grab the opportunity with the wet conditions in race one and bring home the first podium of the season," said the Frenchman. "To be on the podium at home was what I really wanted to do, so it's been a good performance from the whole team."

Starting from the middle of the second row after a spill in Superpole, Guintoli started the second encounter brightly after choosing the SC0 Pirelli compound.

Although unable to live with the pace of van der Mark, Guintoli comfortably dealt with the threat posed by Niccolo Canepa to claim a second top six finish of the day.

"Race two was dry but it was OK - P6 was not too bad, and I would definitely have taken that yesterday morning. We made a few changes from the last dry session in FP4 yesterday to improve the pace and we used the SC0 tyre.

"I thought the other tyre would drop in performance but the guys in front seemed to be on that one. The important thing was that it was two solid races. Now we're looking forward to the final round in Qatar to finish the season on a high."
