Xavi Fores has been announced as Barni Racing Team's sole entry on a Ducati Panigale R for the 2016 World Superbike championship.
The former World Supersport and Moto2 rider spent 2015 as stand in and test rider for the factory Ducati squad in WSBK and raced at Aragon, Assen and Qatar for the injured Davide Giugliano.
The 30-year-old made his World Superbike debut in 2011 riding a BMW but has spent the past four years as a test and stand in rider alongside racing in the Spanish and German championships.
Fores is thrilled to secure a full campaign on machinery he is familiar with and says his Ducati Panigale R is expected to be a very similar specification to the one he rode for the Aruba.it Ducati squad.
“I am really happy with this opportunity, to be in WorldSBK next season, especially because I have been working so hard to be with Ducati,” Fores said. “The opportunity to come with Barni is the best for me because it is a really familiar and professional team.
“The bike will be more or less the same as that of Giugliano and Davies (Aruba.it-Racing Ducati SBK Team), so for me it is a very, very good opportunity. I will be the only rider. That is a good thing for me because it means that all of the material, all of the mechanics and all the team will be working only with me. That is important to do a very good job.”
Fores has a wealth of experience on Superbikes having claimed the Spanish CEV Superbike titles in 2010 and 2013 as well as the German IDM Superbike crown in 2014.
