Sylvain Barrier has secured a return to the World Superbike Championship in 2016 after penning a deal with the Pedercini Kawasaki team.

The two-time Superstock 1000 champion stepped up to the Superbike class in 2014 with BMW Italia, but their relationship together would end just two rounds into the 2015 season after a disappointing start to the year.

Returning to the Superstock 1000 series on a GM Racing Yamaha R1, Barrier struggled to get the new machine to his liking and would leave the team before the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Barrier will forge a return to the Superbike class for 2016 by switching to Kawasaki machinery with WSBK stalwarts Pedercini Racing, which will once again run a pair of ZX-10Rs with support from the factory.

For Barrier, the return to World Superbikes is a chance to redeem himself after injuries played their part in stunting his progress.

"I suffered the serious consequences of two accidents which had happened at difficult moments of my career. The forced break allowed me to heal completely and find again the positive energy and determination to restart racing. I will start over in WorldSBK, in a team with a friendly, passionate and profes?sional atmosphere, where all my needs are listened to and met. We will do great things with Kawasaki."

Coming as Pedercini moves its base to a new location in the Province of Venice, eponymous team boss Lucio Pedercini is thrilled to have secured the services of Barrier.

"This project is aimed at the evolution of the team from the point of view of both or?ganizational management and technical standpoint, with particular reference to electronics.

"We want to become in a short time a solid reference point for riders who want to be top riders in World Superbike, starting with someone who has always impressed me, like Sylvain Barrier."
