4th – Jordi Torres
Average poll score out of ten: 7.2
Red Devils Roma Aprilia
Though perhaps not the most obvious candidate to make a switch from GP competition to WSBK, Jordi Torres nonetheless settled into the rigours of Superbike racing with aplomb in 2015 as the only rider capable of regularly taking the fight to the dominant British contingent.
Snapped up by the Red Devils Roma team after failing to land a deal in Moto2, Torres may have had the benefit of riding factory-assisted machinery, but his relatively late signing had him playing catch up in the run up to the opening round.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard acquitted himself well from the off, scoring top six finishes in all but one of the opening eight races, before reeling off his first podium finish at Imola.
Though not quite the breakthrough result he had hoped as the momentum stalled in the middle of the season as the RSV4 began to slip back in the development race compared to Kawasaki and Ducati, Torres regained his poise in the closing events, picking up podiums in Sepang and Jerez before scoring a hugely accomplished maiden win at the Qatar finale.
Indeed, that win – which came after prevailing in an intense battle with Jonathan Rea - would be testament to Torres' gains as a Superbike rider over the course of the season. Admitting to being too cautious in the heat of battle against more experienced rivals initially, Torres ended the year having seemingly found the right balance between aggression and composure.
A match for team-mate Leon Haslam in the closing stages of the year, Torres would end his rookie season a creditable fifth overall and seemingly with a blossoming Superbike future ahead of him having secured a deal to ride the Althea BMW in 2016.

About the vote:
Rather than repeat the Riders' World Championship standings, the WSBK Rider of the Year poll asks viewers to take into account factors such as machinery, performance relative to a team-mate, riding style, experience, injuries, progress and personality just as much as race results.
Over 50,000 votes were cast for the 2015 Crash.net WSBK Rider of the Year poll, where viewers awarded each of the top twenty from this year's WSBK standings with a mark out of ten.
