Donington Park ramps up fan engagement for WSBK

Donington Park is gearing up for a bumper World Superbike race weekend with a new campaing zone and free entry into the paddock ahead of the revised scheduling for 2016.

With qualifying and race one taking place on Saturday and race two on Sunday the World Superbike weekend will be more stretched out for fans, and Donington Park is looking to take full advantage with paddock shows with riders and an improved camping zone in the infield of the famous Leicestershire circuit with dedicated entertainment and live music for campers.

In addition, Donington Park officials have also made access to the paddock free for the first time allowing fans to get closer to the riders and teams, seeing the long list of home-grown talent in action, including reigning world champion Jonathan Rea, former champion Tom Sykes, local star Alex Lowes and Welsh rider Chaz Davies.

The two feature World Superbike races will both go lights out at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, supported by racing action from World Supersport, Superstock 1000, Ducati TriOptions Cup, European Junior Cup and the National Superstock 600 and 1000 series.

Donington Park sporting director Bob Adams is aiming to make the British round of the World Superbike championship a hit with fans and spark back to the days when tens of thousands roared on Carl Fogarty and company.

“We have been very keen to make the World Superbike race events as spectator friendly as possible,” Adams said. “With the new open paddock, better camping facilities and a good timetable of racing on both days, we are confident that the event will be a big improvement for all spectators. The new race format will encourage anyone coming to make a weekend of it, and enjoy all the additional entertainment.”

The British round of the 2016 World Superbike season takes place at Donington Park on the 27-29 May.

I see there is a huge amount of interest in this story....hence the numerous comments! The new WSBK format is a backward step which is a shame since the series really needed a helping hand not a kick in the teeth.
