Pata Yamaha has confirmed Sylvain Guintoli will sit out of the British round of the World Superbike championship after requiring more time to recover from ankle surgery and is targeting a comeback at Misano next month.
The 2014 World Superbike champion suffered a spectacular high-side off during qualifying at Imola in which he sustained a broken right ankle that ruled him out of the following round at Malaysia.
The Crescent Racing-run team has confirmed the French rider will be forced to miss its home round at Donington Park on the 27-29 May and Crash.net
has learned reigning Moto America Superbike champion Cameron Beaubier is being lined up to deputise for Guintoli.
"Unfortunately the recovery is going to take me a little longer than I had originally hoped but the aim is to be fit in time for Misano,” Guintoli said. “It was such a massive crash that the landing took more out of me than first realised but it's all on the mend now.
“They have inserted some screws into my ankle - which is a shame because I have been metal free for quite a while - but the surgery was completely successful and it's just about recovery time and working to get myself back to 100% fitness again."
Guintoli is targeting a return at Misano which hosts round eight of the World Superbike championship on the 16-18 June.
Alex Lowes is also a concern for Pata Yamaha after breaking his left collarbone in the wet second race at Sepang last week but he is confident to ride through the pain at his and Crescent Racing's home event.
