After uncovering a positive direction with the new Kawasaki ZX-10R, Tom Sykes is confident he can maintain his recent run of form at Misano this weekend.
The 2013 World Superbike champion has claimed three wins in the past four races, plus back-to-back pole positions at Sepang and Donington Park, and is relishing a return to Misano as he has found memories of the track having amassed three wins and four pole positions in his career.
As well as heading to a circuit he favours Sykes is also confident of carrying forward the gains he's made with the Kawasaki in recent weeks which have seen him jump up to second into the World Superbike championship standings in the pursuit of defending champion Jonathan Rea.
“I am very motivated and relaxed,” Sykes said. “We won a race at Sepang in extreme conditions and won both races at Donington despite some issues in the races, which make those wins even more rewarding. We are now carrying all that momentum forward.
“The circuit is tight and twisty which always lends itself to good racing. To top it off we have been successful there in the past. I also feel that I have found a little bit of harmony with the Ninja ZX-10R in recent races.”
Sykes, along with team-mate Rea, has recently completed an in-season test at Jerez which mainly focused around 2017's machine but both riders feel they can take information from the test and apply it to this year's bike.
“We also had a good test at Jerez recently, learned a lot of things and evaluated quite a lot,” he said. “Some other teams have tested at Misano recently but I intend to make up for that when I get there. I am very much looking forward to Misano.”
