Mid-season test: Misano: Davies fills in ‘room for improvement’ at test

Chaz Davies says experiments with set-up on his Aruba.it Racing Ducati has enabled him to find vital gains with the Panigale R's engine while also getting to grips with the new front and rear tyres Pirelli introduced at the Misano test.

After enduring a difficult round eight at the Misano circuit, losing vital ground in the World Superbike championship battle, Davies concentrated on uncovering gains with the engine using a variety of configurations which a race weekend usually doesn't allow time to run.

Notching up 51 laps with a best time of 1m 35.385s despite suffering a small off at the end of the day, Davies has left Misano satisfied with the information gathered and is already targeting a strong comeback next month at round nine at Laguna Seca, where he claimed a dominated double victory plus pole position 12 months ago.

“We tried a different configuration compared with the race,” Davies said. “We focused mostly on the front, where we still have some options to explore, and on the engine, where there's still room for improvement.

“The new solutions brought by Pirelli gave a good feedback and, most important, my right wrist didn't bother me too much and I managed to ride without too many difficulties. We're confident we can head overseas in full shape and bounce back in Laguna Seca.”

Davies has recently played down at switch to MotoGP with Ducati in 2017 after confirming in Misano he is working on a new World Superbike contract.
