Guintoli upbeat after Pata Yamaha comeback

Syvlain Guintoli says he feels physically fine and is moving through a rebuilding process on his comeback from injury at the Lausitzring test.
Sylvain Guintoli says he's running through a slow rebuilding process to regain his speed and confidence on the Pata Yamaha and after an opening day of testing at the Lausitzring he is feeling physically stronger and upbeat with the progress.

The former World Superbike has champion made his opening comeback with the Crescent Racing-run factory Yamaha squad since breaking his ankle at Imola in May at the two-day Lausitzring test.

The French rider has already made tentative steps back to action by riding at a commercial event at Silverstone on a Yamaha R1M while also taking part in private track days at Mallory Park and Donington Park on a standard R1.

Having never competed at the Lausitzring before, Guintoli – running alongside team-mate Alex Lowes – completed 76 laps on the first day of the test to become familiar with the circuit while aiming to regain speed on the World Superbike-spec Yamaha.

“I didn't know how I was going to feel, because it was quite a big crash and it's been a long time since I've been on the bike but I feel okay,” Guintoli told worldsbk.com. “The test here is just about building the speed back up but it's going well. I enjoyed riding the YZF-R1 and I did quite a lot of laps, so it's about continuing to rebuild the confidence and the rhythm with my riding again now.

“I've never been to Lausitz before so we also need to learn the track as it's a bit different, and very bumpy. We need to learn how to go fast with the R1 and not the YZ450F!

“Physically I felt good yesterday, my ankle is holding up well so I'm pleased and we'll just continue the development today.”

Guintoli, who is taking part in the test alongside Lowes as well as as the factory Honda and Kawasaki squads, will complete the second day in Germany before returning to the UK for further physical preparations for round 10 at the Lausitzring on the 16-18 September.
