Lorenzo Savadori has stormed to the fastest time on Friday practice at the Lausitzring for IodaRacing Aprilia as the German circuit provides a shaken up running order.

With the typical final flying blasts chopping and changing the riders at the front, Savadori took the chequered flag on top and held off local rider Markus Reiterberger, who is one of the few riders with experience of the track from his IDM Superbike championship days.

The German track has made a return to the World Superbike calendar for the first time since 2007 meaning the majority of the riders have no racing experience of the circuit which means very few bearing points to build upon for teams.

As a result, the typical front-runners Tom Sykes and Chaz Davies could only claim third and fourth respectively while Sykes' team-mate and championship leader Jonathan Rea will need to find gains to jump straight into Superpole two after finishing FP2 down in 11th.

Honda's Nicky Hayden claimed fifth overall ahead of the returning Sylvain Guintoli, who is making his first competitive comeback in World Superbikes since breaking his ankle at Imola in May, with FP1 topper Jordi Torres in seventh after failing to improve on his morning time.

Alex Lowes slipped to eighth overall for Pata Yamaha after low-siding off at turn six half through the session but did manage to keep ahead of Leon Camier, Michael van der Mark and Rea.

The afternoon session was temporarily suspended at the midpoint after Josh Brookes tumbled off at turn 10 which prompted a red flag so marshals could clear debris thrown on to the track by his Milwaukee BMW. After a ten-minute delay the session resumed but the Australian was unable to return to track action which saw him slip to 18th overall.
