WSBK Lausitz, Germany: Savadori targets race pace after topping FP2

Lorenzo Savadori says he's thrilled with his single lap pace at the Lausitzring but concedes he still has plenty of work ahead to match it with his race pace.
Lorenzo Savadori says he's thrilled with his single lap pace at the Lausitzring but concedes he still has plenty of work ahead to match it with his race pace on the IodaRacing Aprilia.

The Italian rider stormed to the top of the timesheet at the German track with a 1m 37.449s and after keeping local rider Markus Reiterberger behind him at the chequered he took the honour of topping his maiden World Superbike session.

The IodaRacing Aprilia rider says bolting to the fastest time despite not testing at Lausitzring unlike most of his World Superbike rivals came as an added confidence booster but admits improvements are still needed on his race pace to match it with his hot single lap speed.

"My good lap was not perfect, but the result was certainly positive,” Savadori said. “We were sure in the box to be able to improve my lap times this morning and it was nice to do that.

“Of course mine was an excellent single lap, the race pace instead, we still have to work on it, because not having done any testing here before I don't know the track so well. It was not easy for me to take back all on the saddle after so long break in the summer without riding.”
