WSBK Magny-Cours, France: Davies certain of Ducati dry pace

Chaz Davies is confident of his Aruba.it Racing Ducati's dry race pace having claimed victory in race one in Germany and is intrigued to apply what was learnt in the wet race two if there is further rain at Magny-Cours this weekend.

The Welsh rider produced untouchable pace in the dry at the Lausitzring two weeks ago to storm to pole position and a dominant race one win. When the weather took a turn for the worse on the grid for race two in Germany Davies struggled to replicate the same pace and had to settle for sixth place.

After the rampant dry win and information picked up from the wet second race, Davies, fresh from a one-off Audi TT Cup outing at the Hungaroring, is relishing the race weekend as he hunts a sixth win of the year.

“After a fun experience on four wheels at the TT Cup, I'm ready to get back on my Panigale R, something I'm more familiar with,” Davies said. “Last year, in Magny Cours, we found a setup that granted us a strong pace in the dry. We'll try to build from that base and also to take advantage of the improved feeling on the bike that allowed us to get back on the top of the podium in Germany.

“The weather will be unpredictable, but surely we'll have to lap in the rain at some point. To this end, we learned a lot from the race two debrief at Lausitz, so overall I'm very much looking forward to head out on track.”

Davies heads into round 11 of the 2016 Word Superbike championship trailing Tom Sykes for second place by 51 points but looks all-but out of the title challenge with a 98-point deficit to Jonathan Rea.
