Tom Sykes has risen to the front in the wet conditions after overnight rain soaked the Magny-Cours circuit ahead of qualifying and race one.
Sykes' Kawasaki team-mate Jonathan Rea led proceedings for the majority of the session having dominated to an emphatic victory in the rain last time in race two at the Lausitzring, but the Yorkshire rider found late gains to head Rea by two-tenths at the end of the 15-minute FP3 session.
With the two factory Kawasaki team-mates clear at the top Davide Giugliano in third for Aruba.it Racing Ducati acted as the nearest challenger well over a second back.
Alex de Angelis, who claimed a podium finish in the wet last time out at Lausitzring, ended the session fourth for IodaRacing Aprilia ahead of Leon Camier (MV Agusta) and local favourite Sylvain Guintoli on the Pata Yamaha.
Nicky Hayden has jumped to seventh after struggling for pace in the dry on Friday as Matthieu Lussiana, Xavi Fores and Michael van der Mark completed the top ten.
Fastest rider from Friday Chaz Davies could only place his factory Ducati 11th quickest – 3.4s off of Sykes at the top – but ahead of Matthieu Lagrive, Karel Abraham and Alex Lowes.
